All God's Children
Miss Martha, a self taught sculptures, introduced her first
sculptures of
children in 1985 and names them "All God's Children". Drawing on her
faith
and delightful childhood memories, she has sculpted a line of figurines that
touch the spirit and reflect the innocence and beauty of children.

FREDERICK DOUGLASS
Frederick
Douglass was the leading spokesman for his people in the 19th
Century. He devoted his life to the abolition of slavery and to
the struggle for human rights. In Miss Martha's work, we see him
as he has been reading his grandson a selection from his
autobiography.

BESSIE SMITH
Bessie Smith was
known to many as the "Empress of the Blues" because of her incredible
musical talent. In 1923 her record, "Downhearted Blues," was the first
recording by a black singer to sell over a million copies. She holds an
honored place as one of the most important women in the history of American
music.
